How it all began...

Well, Let me begin by saying I'm not a blogger. However, there is one thing that pushed me forward into the new age, if for only a short while during our trip.  The simple fact that we are adopting a little boy from Uganda.  Our little boy.

A little background: We started this journey 18 months ago when both James and I decided we wanted to give a child a home, love, security and a family that didn't already have that.  We had that, and we decided we could share.

Our hearts were pulled to Africa and the great need there.  The next 18 months we worked our way through the complex paperwork and process. We kept feeling we were moving towards something that seemed to keep getting farther away.  With every step forward it seemed we took a few steps back.  We lost two referrals.  We were elated when we found out about twin boys only to find out they were being child trafficked.  Then, again we had hope as we heard about the babies' home that had a child for us only to find out they were selling him to the highest bidder.  The emotional rollercoaster we were warned about seemed like a kind description to how we felt.

Then, the call came.  We heard about our little boy.  There were many hurdles for us, many ups and downs with his case.  We spent months investigating everything surrounding this child to make sure it was an entirely ethical case. Everything checked out and we became comfortable with the circumstances.  We were ready for him now.  The time had finally come for us to fully commit...to him.  We faced our doubts and fears in the face for the final time before we said yes. We knew we wanted to take risks and live life hard and full and follow our hearts.  Our hearts had been touched and inspired by the need so many children have for a loving home and we knew we wanted to see this through.

And that is where we are now.  We found out last Friday, that our court date is November 1st and we are leaving this Saturday.  I wanted to have a private blog so we can keep our family and friends up to speed while we are in Uganda.  We don't know how long I/we will be there. We don't know what the next few months have in store for us.  We don't know a lot.  We are taking it one step at a time and finding joy along the way...and freaking out a little bit...
a friend took these when she visited in October right before we came

Thanks for all the support you have all given to our family through this process and in helping us get out of here!  It's been invaluable.

One caveat: This is a secure blog, you can only see it if I have entered your email address in.  It is extremely important no one shares information, especially pictures from this blog with anyone electronically.  No facebook posts, status updates, tweets or emails about us or our boy, no pictures, nothing.  People in Uganda follow adoptive families online and we are not suppose to post pictures and details of our case online.  So please respect our privacy at this time!  Thanks!
